Baby Josie is also practicing her voice!

I discovered that when I was practicing the dog whimpers, baby Josie, was also implementing them!  Go Josie!  So darn cute!  I am thinking I feel like there is more freedom and flexibility in singing the song.  I had minimal tension, yet when I practice  this darn tension comes out.  I am thinking way too hard!  Someone tell me to relax!

  1. Maybe I should clarify ‘when singing the song’ in my entry: When sing though song as a performance. Am I putting more air flow in the phrasing?? Am I not doing the gas peddling as much as Elise pointed out...hmmm something to explore.

  2. GREAT reflection, Jamie! You are right--you are probably "trying" too hard. Sometimes when we are trying to relax, nothing but tension comes out! Keep tabs on your tongue....I feel like that is 90% of the reason why you are tiring quickly. You truly have a beautiful, rich, round voice....the goal will to easily find the "happy" place that occurs when everything is working in harmony.
One more thing---as you ascend in pitch, refrain from using as much air or as much power as you do in the lower part of your register. The higher you get, the less surface area the folds are using---it is not necessary to "power" or "push" the voice up past the prima passaggio. (I love talking shop with you!!)
Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow!
